**Update: Get Your Mac Ready - Homebrew**

Hey Prep-workers!

Just a quick update to the directions for Getting Your Mac Ready before you start the learning challenges.

It appears that Homebrew has been updated recently, and the cask command was deprecated and now disabled. If you follow the directions in the mac videos or the “Installing Xcode, Homebrew, VS Code, Chrome, And Git” article, you will likely run into error messages.

To fix this, you will probably need to remove the word cask from your directions.

For example:

  • Use brew install visual-studio-code instead of brew cask install visual-studio-code

  • Use brew install google-chrome instead of brew cask install google-chrome

If the commands above do not work, then try brew install --cask <name>, replacing <name> with the name of the software you are trying to install.

We will work to update the directions. In the meantime, if you run into any other installation issues, just add a note in this thread and we can help you out! You can also do a quick google search with the text of the error message you receive, and you will likely find a number of StackOverflow articles with solutions that have worked for others with similar error messages.
